Apple Pie Meeting
Date
2011
Location
Fukuoka, Japan
Project type
Socially Engaged Art - Gathering
Apple Pie Meeting was a weekly community gathering held in a transformed apartment unit that served as a living room art gallery and community space. Attendees had the opportunity to learn how to make apple pies, meet new people, and create collaborations. Community members experienced cooking without electricity, instead using a traditional Japanese charcoal grill, Shichirin, and reflected on the convenience of today’s society. This project was particularly relevant due to the explosions at Fukushima Daiichi, which forced people in the country to live without or with limited supply of electricity, prompting a reflection on the modern convenience.
